Over the last few years the website has gone from strength to strength and is now an internationally-recognised treasure trove for connoisseurs and collectors of fine spirits, with Single Malt whisky at the forefront. The range now stands at around 1500+ whiskies, with hundreds of cognacs, rums and other spirits also available.
These terms will be governed by and construed in accordance with the law of England and Wales, in particular the Licensing Act of 2003 in relation to Minimum Legal Age.

SDL is not responsible for the views expressed by customers or independent tasters in the tasting notes or product reviews sections of the website. We are not responsible for any disruption, offence or damage caused by following any links from SDL to any third-party websites.
3. Payment Methods
Payment can be made by debit or credit card online, using the following cards: VISA, VISA Delta, Mastercard, American Express or Maestro. You can also pay by bank transfer if you wish by prior arrangement, in which case you must contact us before sending any money. Please be aware that there is an administration charge for this service depending on the country of origin. Your bank may also charge you for this service.
4. Cancellation and Returns Policies
It is our policy to ensure that all products supplied to all our customers arrive in perfect condition. You have the right to cancel your order without charge. If you are unhappy with products purchased (other than perishable products) which are not faulty, we will happily refund your money or exchange the products provided you inform us within 7 days after the day following the delivery of the goods.
Any returned products must be returned to us in good condition, with all packaging intact. All refunds and reimbursements will be paid within 30 days of your notifying us about returning the products. Any product returned must be within its original packaging and adequately packed to avoid any possible damage. The cost of returning the product is the responsibility of the customer.
5. Minimum legal age
We may only sell alcohol products to those over the age of 18. By placing an order, you confirm that you are at least 18 years of age and the minimum legal age for purchasing alcohol products in your country of residence.
6. Taxes and Duties
Alcohol products sold at SDL are subject to UK taxation. If we are sending products to an address within the European Union (EU), prices are subject to Value Added Tax (VAT). This applies to all EU countries except Sweden, where Swedish duty and tax will be added at the time of the sale.
If we are sending to an address outside the EU, we will not charge VAT, although your order may be subject to local taxes and duties upon arrival in your country, which are levied once the package reaches your country. Any additional charges for customs clearance must be borne by you; we have no control over these charges and cannot predict what they may be. Customs policies vary widely from country to country, so you will need to contact your local customs office if you require further information.
Please note that standard deliveries are made during business hours on Monday to Friday; to ensure prompt delivery someone must be present to sign for the parcel. After processing, (which may be subject to delay if we are out of stock of any items ordered, in which case we will notify you), all orders are despatched using a 24 hour service to most mainland destinations in the UK, 48 hour service to many European addresses and 72 hours to outlying areas of the UK. For international orders, delivery times vary depending on location. Delivery charges are calculated based on the weight of the product and the destination address.
Next day delivery is available for UK orders placed before 1pm; these orders will be processed for delivery on the next working day after the order is placed. Orders placed after 1pm on any working day will be processed and despatched on the following working day and should arrive on the next working day after that.
Punctuality of Service
Please note that we are unable to guarantee the punctuality of service provided by our delivery agents, particularly during spells of difficult weather conditions. If your shipment is delivered unacceptably late after having been collected from us on time by our agent we will try to secure a refund where appropriate.
Additional Shipping Charges
1. Orders outside Europe are liable to incur a £5 surcharge per item for products with heavy packaging (eg wooden box). It is the customer's responsibility to inform us if they do not wish the boxes to be included in their parcel.
2. Orders to Taiwan are subject to a limit of 5 litres and require export certification. The administration fee for this service is £10 per certificate (8 items per certificate).
3. All orders are insured by us at no extra charge up to a value of £500. Orders of value in excess of £500 will incur an additional insurance charge as specified on our Shipping page .
4. By accepting our terms and conditions, you agree to these additional shipping charges where applicable to your order.
We have endeavoured to ensure the accuracy of the information on the site. Should a product be unavailable, we will endeavour to inform you of this promptly. Prices and specifications can change without notice and products are subject to availability.
9. Continuity of access / service
Our objective is to offer our customers the best possible service, but we are unable to accept responsibility for interrupted access to SDL due to technical problems outside of our control. Due to the nature of the Internet, access may be suspended, restricted or interrupted at any time, and we are therefore unable to guarantee entirely error-free access and services.
10. Identity Verification
To ensure that your credit, debit or charge card is not being used without your consent, we will validate name, address and other personal information supplied by you during the order process against appropriate third party databases. By accepting these terms and conditions you consent to such checks being made.
In performing these checks personal information provided by you may be disclosed to a registered Credit Reference Agency which may keep a record of that information. You can rest assured that this is done only to confirm your identity, that a credit check is not performed and that your credit rating will be unaffected. All information provided by you will be treated securely and strictly in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
11. Data Protection
We take steps to protect your privacy and support all the requirements of the UK Data Protection Act 1998. The data we collect from you is used solely for the purpose of fulfilling your order or sending you the newsletter. We will never disclose your personal information to any other parties without your consent except to verify your identification as above. Your credit card information is not retained and is completely removed from our system after your order is processed or cancelled. You have every right to know what information has been held in our system.
